Are you considering dental implants in Trenton? Dental implants provide a natural-looking solution for missing teeth that can last for decades. In fact, some patients never need to get their dental implants replaced, and from the outside, no one would ever know they were there in the first place.

In this article, we’ll go over the definition of dental implants and how they work to fix missing teeth.

Why Choose Dental Implants?

It’s simple to take your teeth for granted. Aside from brushing, flossing, and the occasional dental visit, you probably don’t have to think about them much. At the same time, we all know that tooth decay is a part of life. Depending on your individual circumstances, you may experience tooth decay and/or the loss of teeth earlier or later in life.

No matter when it happens, it’s no picnic. It’s up to you to make the decision on how you will replace your missing teeth and avoid the further deterioration of your other teeth. Dental implants offer the ideal solution.

Why?

For starters, they don’t need to be removed and replaced each day as dentures usually do. This makes them far more hygienic and easier to manage and keep clean. Additionally, unlike bridges, they don’t require metal brace work that can be uncomfortable and make eating and drinking difficult. Bridges also tend to need consistent adjustments over time, which is not a common problem with dental implants.

Lastly, dental implants don’t require you to have healthy teeth recontoured in order to anchor the replacement tooth. Instead, the anchor is inserted directly into the gum line/jawbone. This makes implants extremely durable and natural-looking. Your other teeth stay healthy, and your smile stays beautiful. Talking, laughing, eating, and drinking are just as easy as they were before you had implants.

How Do Dental Implants Work?

There are several steps involved in getting a dental implant, and it’s important to know that it will take some time. Naturally, your dental professional will want to meet with you for a consultation to make sure you are a good candidate and to discuss the process first.

From there, another appointment will be made, during which an incision will be made in your jawbone. A post will be placed here, which will later become the anchor for the replacement tooth.

You’ll need to wait for a period of time after the initial appointment so that the implant post can fuse with your jawbone. This will create a strong foundation.

At your next appointment, once the implant post has been fused to the jawbone, the abutment (connector piece) will be added to the implant post. This will later connect to the final stage of the process, which is attaching the false tooth. In the case of dental implants, the false tooth is really a custom-made crown that looks exactly like the tooth you lost.
